Well there is actually nothing naughty about this chocolate avocado mousse. Boring! But you’ll be surprised to hear that it does taste like there is something naughty about this chocolate mousse. And that’s it’s very chocolately!
Sometimes, it’s hard to convince kids to eat something that is healthy for them, especially when they are faced with so many unhealthy options, so this is a pretty good way to indulge, without having a super sugary chocolate treat. The smoothness of the avocado works really well to create this dairy and gluten free dessert.
Master 3 would not eat avocado even if it was the last food on earth. I have disguised it in sushi before (cue heaps of extra salmon), but generally speaking, this healthy fat doesn’t pass his lips. Which is a total shame, because avocado is really good for you, high in potassium, loaded with antioxidants and high in fibre. Combine this with healthy cacao powder…and you’re onto a winner.
You could also use this as a delicious spread on bread, not unlike nutella! Perfect for rolling up on wraps with fresh strawberries. This would also be the perfect addition to dirt cups, instead of the traditional chocolate pudding that is used in them.
You’ve got to admit there’s something incredibly satisfying about feeding your kids a dessert like this without them noticing!
To make this dessert you need a foodprocessor to make this dessert, or a super high power blender…but it’s totally worth it!
Chocolate avocado mousse
Yield 4 serves
- 3 avocadoes, peeled and pitted
- 1/2 cup rice malt syrup
- 1 cup cacao powder
- 3 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon water
- Place all ingredients except the water into a food processor.
- If needed, add extra water (a teaspoon at a time) to get the consistency you want.
- Refrigerate for 1hour before serving.
