When it comes to choosing a lunchbox, many parents think the only eco choice is stainless steel. But I’m here to blow that myth right out of the school playground with the newest lunchbox on the market- from boo and crew. With their gorgeous whimsical designs, eco-friendly bamboo and cornstarch construction and a leakproof silicone seal on the lid, their boo boxes are set to take the lunchbox world by storm.
Biodegradable- whaaaaat? Yep! I can’t even fathom the awesomeness of that. Just bury it in the garden. Normally I rate lunchboxes badly if they aren’t dishwasher safe. But for once there is actually a reason- due to the biodegradability of it, Boo and Crew recommend handwashing. And that totally makes sense.
With four clips to secure the lid (they start off stiff but get easier to use with time), the lid is firmly held in place. And while we are talking lids…let’s talk those designs Tasmanian tiger (one dollar from every sale goes to for every box sold to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy), fawn ($1 for every box sold to Take 3 For The Sea) and koala (a dollar from every sale goes to Currumbin wildlife hospital). There are two colours- a beautiful unisex yellow and pink.
There are four compartments in each box, perfect for sandwich eaters or bento snackers alike. The sandwich compartment is massive- it fits BIG bread slices! All the compartments are super deep too- you could easily fit two sandwiches in the box. The lid also add extra depth, so no crushed crackers! The compartments are perfect for containing a salad, a smorgasbord of fruits and veggies, or whatever other nude food tickles your fancy.
What are the pros?
- leak proof
- ecofriendly
- cute designs
- size- it’s massive
What are the cons?
- the clips take a bit of use to loosen up
- it’s heavy
- I really want a mint green one!
The lunchbox fits in the montii cooler bags and also the soyoung cooler bags, but due to its size, it is a tad tight in the medium fridge to go. Honestly, if you are not buying a plastic lunchbox for ethical reasons, then this is ticking all the boxes for me- especially the fact that it is leakproof- something often not achieved by stainless steel lunchboxes.
And if nothing else sells it to you, then the fact that these lunchboxes are giving back should get you excited. My kids are loving using them and they are perfect for going out and about for the day as they can hold a lot of food. They are also super sturdy and have put up with a few drops and knocks…and still look great!
