Pretty food makes a difference. The more interesting you make something, the more likely the kiddies will be interested. That’s why bite size and fun food mean are good for kiddies at school. Having been a teacher, I know that kids need brainfood. I’ve also seen kids refusing lunch and then drowsy all afternoon. So here’s some ideas on how to pimp those lunches!
One simple thing for us that changed our lunches was the move from containers for yoghurt to using reusable yoghurt pouches. Why? Because Miss 5 wasn’t enthusiatic about using a spoon to eat her yoghurt and potentially getting dirty! (Not something I would have ever thought would be a problem for her considering how dirty she likes to get!). The pouchjes have also helped in “the keeping up with the jones’s” attitude- she feels like she’s having a yoghurt like the other kids…but ours has no added sugar! You can read more about pouches and more about how we flavour our yoghurt.
Now a while back we decided we didn’t want rice paper rolls. Why? they were apparently boring. So I decided to pimp them:
It just took a little seaweed punch (you can get them at all bento shops cheaply) and some seaweed. And suddenly Miss 5 was all inspired again.
I’ve also got a video for you- inside out sushi rolls.
So, you’ve all seen how to make sushi and how to make rice paper rolls…and it’s not that hard, right? You can do it, right? PLEASE SEND ME PHOTOS! Either post them to the wall on facebook and add the #cleanupurlunch or add them to instagram #cleanupurlunch. What’s got you thinking? What are you planning on trying? Have you been inspired so far?
