This Sunbeam High Performance Power Blender was gifted to me for the purpose of this review. All opinions are my own.
For years I have struggled with finding the perfect blender. I've tried smoothie blenders, I've tried glass jug blenders and now I've tried the Sunbeam PB9000 High Performance Power Blender. And I've finally found the best blender to recommend to you.
The problem with blenders is they are upright, and if they don't have enough power, then for doing anything other than smoothies, they are pretty much useless. And that is where we have always struggled. I have always put the blender away from the bench whereas the food processor (which takes up a lot more space) has taken pride of place due to it's versatility.
But here's the thing, the Sunbeam High Performance Power Blender has made me put away the food processor. Everything from smoothies, to homemade dips and even homemade nutella, can be done in this baby! In fact, it does bliss balls too!
It's super simple to use and boasts a really powerful 1500 watt motor that spins at over 400km/h with 6 super strong blades, so making gin and tonic slushies has become a weekend treat. It's also awesome for apple juice slushies at home in the afternoon- all you need is apple juice and ice.
With a 1.9 litre tritan jug that goes in the dishwasher, cleanup is super easy. There is also a lot of control in what you can do with this blender. I had a blender that was on/off only prior to this and the difference could not be more marked.
The pre-programmed menu selections are awesome, with the smoothie one stepping up the power initially, easing off to get all the chunks out and then powering up again at the end to ensure a smooth and delicious smoothie. It helps to take the guesswork out.
The dial for "manual mode" is really precise and means you can add or remove power as you need whilst blending. You have full control and can blend, chop, mill, knead, grind and juice. You've got all the power you need for dough (like bread and pizza), nut butters, smoothies, dips and pasta sauces.
Frozen fruit and ice are no problem for this blender, so you can even get the smoothie packs from the supermarket to make super quick smoothies with no prep needed.
The cap on the lid can come off during blending so you can add more stuff into your recipe and doubles as a measuring cup. And there is a pusher included that won't get stuck on the blades that helps with ingredients that don't want to get crushed and keep running away from the blades.
And here's the thing. This blender will only set you back $499. When you compare that price with others on the market, this one is definitely a winner.
So here's the clincher: would I recommend it? Hands down, yes! It is amazing and so powerful that nothing I have tried to make from bliss balls to nutella has been too hard. It has succeeded at everything. Cleanup is easy, the built in programs are fantastic, it's high capacity, the jug is super strong and it really is pretty awesome.
If you're after a blender- this one should whizz right up to the top of the list, for affordability, usability and POWER.
And, I know what you're all thinking...how do I make a gin slushie?
Simple:
1.5 shots of gin per person
1 cup of tonic per person
1 cup of ice per person.
Blend it using the smoothie program.

Hi! What's your take on the noise level of this blender? Is it super loud, or bearable when blending smoothies etc? I'm looking into getting this one, but I'm just wondering whether it's too noisy! Thank you! 🙂

It's high powered and depending on what you blend, that can make it loud! But compromise on noise and you compromise on power.

Thanks for this review! It's so hard to find an upright blender that packs enough power to grind nuts. I may just have it whizz to the top of my must have list. 😉

I have been making some threats around the house like: if I step on another piece of lego I'm popping it in the blender...as I'm pretty sure it would handle it. 😉
